...VERY WARM NOVEMBER FOR BETHEL...

NOVEMBER 2014 WAS A VERY WARM MONTH FOR BETHEL AND THE KUSKOKWIM
DELTA WITH ALL MEASURES OF MONTHLY TEMPERATURES COMING IN AT RECORD OR
NEAR RECORD VALUES. DURING THE SECOND WEEK OF THE MONTH...THE COMBINATION
OF AN ABNORMALLY STRONG RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE SETTING UP OVER THE
EASTERN TWO-THIRDS OF THE STATE ALONG WITH AN ALMOST AS STRONG ALEUTIAN
LOW ALLOWED FOR WARM AND MOIST SOUTHEASTERLY FLOW OVER THE REGION. THIS
KEPT TEMPERATURES SIGNIFICANTLY ABOVE NORMAL FOR THE MOST OF THE MONTH.

WITH RESPECT TO TEMPERATURES...ALL MEASURES OF TEMPERATURE WERE IN
THE TOP THREE NOVEMBERS ON RECORD. THE AVERAGE DAILY MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE
WAS THE THIRD WARMEST...THE AVERAGE DAILY MINIMUM TEMPERATURE WAS THE
WARMEST ON RECORD...AND THE AVERAGE MEAN DAILY TEMPERATURE CAME
IN AS THE SECOND WARMEST ON RECORD. ALTHOUGH THERE WAS A BURST OF COLD
TEMPERATURES IN THE FIRST WEEK OF THE MONTH...24 OF 30 DAYS FOR THE MONTH
SHOWED ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES WITH TWO DAYS /15TH AND 16TH/ SHOWING
A +24F DEPARTURE FROM NORMAL.

AS WARM AS THE MONTH WAS...ONLY TWO TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE SET IN THE
MONTH. A DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS TIED ON THE 13TH OF 44F /LAST SET IN
1986/ AND A DAILY HIGH WAS SET ON THE 16TH OF 46F /BEATING 43F IN 1996/.

ALTHOUGH THE ATMOSPHERE OVER BETHEL WAS GENERALLY MORE MOIST THAN
NORMAL...NOVEMBER 2014 WAS NOT EXCEEDINGLY WET WITH THE MONTHLY
PRECIPITATION RANKING AS THE 23RD WETTEST /TIED WITH 1931 AND 2005/.
SNOWFALL WAS SIMILARLY RANKED AS THE 26TH SNOWIEST ON RECORD. FREEZING
RAIN OCCURRED TWICE DURING THE MONTH WITH LIGHT AMOUNTS OF ICING
DURING BOTH EVENTS.
