...SOGGY APRIL IN JUNEAU...

APRIL 2015 WAS A WET MONTH WITH 7.18 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION MEASURED AT
THE JUNEAU AIRPORT...WHICH IS THE SECOND WETTEST APRIL ON RECORD. THE
RECORD WAS SET IN 1999 WITH 7.48 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION. MORE THAN A
TENTH OF AN INCH OF PRECIPITATION WAS RECORDED ON 16 DAYS. ONE HALF INCH
OR MORE OF RAINFALL WAS RECORDED ON 5 DAYS...WITH THE MOST RAINFALL
OCCURRING ON THE 8TH AT 1.15 INCHES. THE MONTHLY HIGH AND LOW
TEMPERATURES OF 62 AND 28 DEGREES BOTH OCCURRED DURING TWO OF THE DRIER
PERIODS OF THE MONTH...FROM APRIL 2ND TO 6TH AND THEN BETWEEN THE 21ST
AND THE 25TH. THE DAILY MINIMUM TEMPERATURE WAS LESS THAN 32 DEGREES ON
10 DAYS, THE LAST OF WHICH OCCURRED ON APRIL 25TH. THE CLIMATE NORMAL
LAST FREEZE DATE IS MAY 6TH. A TRACE OF SNOWFALL WAS RECORDED ON SEVERAL
DAYS DURING THE MONTH...BUT MELTED UPON REACHING THE GROUND. THE TOTAL
SNOWFALL FOR THE SEASON SINCE JULY 1 STANDS AT 48.6 INCHES...MORE THAN 3
FEET BELOW THE NORMAL SEASONAL AMOUNT OF 86.7 INCHES. A POTENT, QUICK
MOVING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM ON THE 28TH BROUGHT THE STRONGEST WINDS OF
THE MONTH TO THE AIRPORT WITH A GUST OF 52 MPH OUT OF THE SOUTHEAST. THE
MONTH OVERALL WAS RELATIVELY WINDY WITH 12 DAYS RECORDING GUSTS OF OVER
30 MPH.
